The future development trend of HDIM connectors
Since December 9, 2002, the HDMI 1.0 version of the standard HDMI cable was officially released, marking the official entry of the HDMI technology HDMI cable into the historical stage. In recent years, the HDMI cable specification of HDMI technology has continued to develop rapidly in the market, and there are more than 850 authorized users around the world. More and more consumer electronics and PC manufacturers are licensing the HDMI specification, further strengthening the specification's status as the world standard for high-definition digital connectivity.
According to a report from market research firm In-Stat, about 394 million HDMI devices are expected to ship in 2009, up from 1 billion previously. By the end of 2009, 100% of digital TVs will have at least one HDMI input. Subsequently, Blu-ray players in 2010, DVD players in 2012 will achieve 100% HDMI interface installation. The application prospect and market of HDMI will be extremely broad.
Estimated HDMI device shipments from 2005 to 2012
Seven new features of HDMI1.4 specification
Steve Venuti, president of HDMILicensing, LLC., made a special trip to Beijing to introduce the new features of the latest HDMI specification version 1.4 to the media. According to reports, the HDMI 1.4 specification provides the following seven new features:
HDMI ethernet channel
HDMI specification 1.4 adds a data path to the cable to achieve bidirectional high-speed transmission. After connecting, devices with this function will send and receive data at a speed of 100Mb/sec over Ethernet, and make these devices IP immediately basic equipment.
HDMI Ethernet Channel allows Internet-integrated HDMI devices to share their Internet connection with other HDMI devices without the need for additional Ethernet cables. This new feature also provides the interconnect architecture required to share content between HDMI devices
audio return channel
The latest specification adds an audio channel to reduce the number of cables required to process and playback uploaded audio. When HDTVs directly receive audio and video content, this new audio return channel allows HDTVs to directly use HDMI cables to transmit audio streams to A/V receivers without adding additional cables.
HDMI3D function
Version 1.4 of the specification defines common 3D formats and resolutions for HDMI devices. This specification standardizes the input/output portion of a home 3D system, with a maximum resolution of two-channel 1080p.
Support 4Kx2K resolution
The latest specification allows HDMI devices to support four times the HD resolution of 1080p. The new specification supports 4Kx2K resolution, allowing the HDMI interface to transmit content at the same standard resolution used in many digital cinemas. Supported formats include: 3840x216024Hz/25Hz/30Hz; 4096x216024Hz.
Extended support for color spaces
HDMI technology now supports color spaces designed for digital cameras. After the display device with HDMI function can support sYCC601, AdobeRGB and AdobeYCC601, it can display more accurate vivid colors when connecting to a digital camera.
Micro HDMI connector
The Micro HDMI connector is an extremely small 19-pin connector that supports resolutions up to 1080p for portable devices. This new connector is 50% smaller in size than the current HDMI mini connector.
